Knowledge Assessment in VET?

Assessing Knowledge in VET?

Assessment faces many challenges; one, in particular, is that Assessment practices are typically designed by individuals without specialist test design skills. Another challenge is that such Assessment practices are then “Validated” by individuals who lack specific skills in test evaluation. The result is an impossibly wide variation in the relative quality of assessments across RTOs – With the consequence that there is wide variation in outcomes.

Asking Questions: Tools For Brain Based Learning

Although much of what we are now discovering about how the brain learns is new, the idea of asking questions as a way to keep students’ attention is not. Indeed, some teachers have been asking questions of their students for decades, even in the hallowed lecture halls of the world’s great universities. So why is there such discontent with much of what we call “higher learning?”Why are so many students so bored and so uninvolved in their own classroom instruction?

Three Reasons Why People Don't Finish Their TAE40116 Certificate IV In Training And Assessment

Three Reasons Why People Don't Finish Their TAE40116 Certificate IV In Training And Assessment

The TAE40116 Certificate IV is not simple to complete. Even the much easier, old TAE10, saw a completion rate of about 50% of people actually finish the course. Why? I think there are three reasons. 1. People sign up to do the TAE40116 thinking that it is something that it is not; 2. People sign up to do the TAE40116 because it is something that they want to have done; 3. People sign up to do the TAE40116 but don’t do enough “doing”

To be brutally frank, the Certificate IV TAE may well be Australia’s most resented qualification. For many people, it is something that they would rather have done than something that they want to do. For many people, it is something that they have to do to satisfy someone else’s requirements rather than something that they want to do to satisfy their own requirements.

Challenges Facing VET In Australia

Challenges Facing VET In Australia

Vocational education and Training (VET) has been the most effective part of Australia’s educational system for a number of years. The unique partnership between government, industry and trainers which has been created in Australia regularly outperforms the haphazard vocational education offered in most countries. Our standardized system of certification ensures that trained personnel are consistently available to the private business sector while ensuring that the level of training that they receive is consistent across the country.

The TAE cert iv certainly isn’t an easy course to complete. I had to learn a whole new language and although I was expecting to be taught how to teach, it’s nothing like that - more like learning how best to support our students and to present the information to them in a way they can understand. The support provided by Fortress was really good - I chose the middle package as a safety net just in case I needed it. Initially my trainer was Brian, an awesome mentor, huge experience and very helpful. He left last year, and my new mentor was Richard - again fabulous support, almost always available relatively quickly and able to point me in the right direction. Marking turnaround was typically 1-2 days - shorter than the advertised time too which also helped. I have no hesitation in recommending Fortress Learning to anyone looking to further their VET journey. Many thanks Fortress and the team
