Upgrading From TAE40110 to TAE40116 With Fortress Learning: What Does It Look Like?

The TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is not entirely the same as the older TAE40110 Certificate IV TAE.

Yes, 8 of the 10 units are equivalent but don’t be fooled into thinking that a TAE40116 Upgrade can just be a matter of showing your old certificate and showing a resume or job description.

Knowing what is involved first requires knowledge of what has changed.  Here, we will go through the differences between TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and TAE40110, and what it means for your Upgrade with Fortress Learning.

Difference 1 – Industry currency required for TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment

What is the gap?

Unlike TAE40110 Certificate IV, the TAE40116 requires that you demonstrate vocational competency in your proposed teaching and assessing area. Vocational competency is defined as broad industry knowledge and experience.

What do we need?

Evidence of your current vocational competency. This may include, but is not limited to, holding a relevant unit of competency or qualification, or working as Trainer and Assessor in your chosen vocational industry area.

What does it need to show?

Details of how you have gained skills and knowledge in Vocational Education through your completion of VET Qualifications or work that you do in a specific industry relevant to Vocational Education.

What could you submit?

Documentation can include such items as:

  • Copies of Qualifications you have completed in the past such as Cert I, II, III, IV or Diplomas (this will be the easiest for most people)
  • Position Descriptions
  • Resumes
  • Letter of Employment
  • Employment Contracts
  • Payslips.

Difference 2 – New core units in TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment

What is the gap?

There are two new Core units in TAE40116 that were electives in TAE40110:

TAELLN411 – Address adult, language, literacy & numeracy skills
TAEASS502 – Design & develop assessment tools

What do we need?

Evidence that you are competent in both of these units.

What could you submit?
  • If you have not yet completed TAEASS502, this can be completed via RPL or Coursework and is integrated with the assessment of the gaps for TAEASS401
  • If you have not yet completed TAELLN411, this can be completed as a standalone unit via Recognition or Coursework

Difference 3 – TAEASS401 Performance and Knowledge Evidence is different in TAE40116

What is the gap?

For TAEASS401 you are required to show that you have planned assessment for 5 different Units of Competency (2 for RPL).

What do you need to do?

Because you already hold the TAEASS401A or TAEASS401B, then we take this into account and you simply need to provide evidence of planning for assessment for 3 different Units of Competency.

Some of the Knowledge Evidence has also changed, so you’re also required to answer some Knowledge Questions.

How do you complete this?

We provide you with the Templates required to plan for your Assessments, which include:

  • Assessment plans
  • Assessment instrument templates
  • How you contextualised the unit(s) of competency and the selected assessment instruments, where required
  • How you incorporated reasonable adjustment strategies into the assessment
  • How you followed organisational arrangements
  • Trialing and reviewing your instruments with a colleague
  • Observer/Third Party Report as evidence of your practical demonstration of skills. Alternatively, you can video record each Trial and Review.

Difference 4 – TAEASS403 Performance and Knowledge Evidence is different in TAE40116

What is the gap?

For TAEASS403, you are required to show that you have planned and participated in 3 assessment validations.

While some of the Knowledge Evidence has also changed, we have incorporated this into the actual performance evidence.

What do you need to do?

You are required to plan, prepare for and participate and contribute to 3 Assessment Validations.

How will you complete this?
  • Validation Cover Sheets
  • Validation Meeting Forms
  • Participate in 2 Post – Assessment Validations
  • Participate in 1 Pre – Assessment Validation
  • Observer/Third Party Report as evidence of your practical demonstration of skills. Alternatively, you can video record the 3 Validations
  • Validation Findings Report
  • Reflection

Putting it all Together –  What are the Options for your TAE40116 TAE Certificate IV in Training and Assessment Upgrade?

Not everyone is the same.

The units you completed as part of your TAE40110 will not be the same as the next person.  Likewise, the experience you have had since completing your initial Cert IV TAE will also be different.

For that reason, we offer 4 different ways to upgrade from TAE40110 Cert 4 TAE to the TAE40116 Cert IV TAE. Click here for a detailed article we have written.
