The “Standard Support” Package – WHo is it for?

Just a reminder (in case you didn’t really read it on the other page):

“This package is perfect for people who are able to focus and motivate themselves for the most part, who are really comfortable with doing anything online, naturally have good study habits and generally did alright when learning at school or doing any other course.

These people are typically able complete their online study with the videos and written instructions alone, needing very little to no additional help from trainers.”

This doesn’t mean you get zero support, far from it, below is more detail on all the ways you still get support or how you can access MORE if you need it, the difference is that with this package, you just pay for direct trainer support as you need it instead of it being included. And the cost of trainer time is exactly what you’d expect to see in the industry.

You still get unlimited tech and student support so if you have any issues with accessing your Learner Portal or finding the things you need within the portal, uploading assessment tasks, or any issues relating to payments or admin, you are fully supported.

Below is a detailed breakdown of each item included in this level of support, and an FAQ for any other questions you might have to help you decide if this is the right support package for you.

Your “STANDARD” Support Package Inclusions:

Support Better Together
Fast Help Evening Trainer Support

While you don’t have any flexible trainer time included in your support package, you do have access to our “Fast Help Evening Trainer Support” blocks.

If you get stuck and either can’t afford to invest in direct trainer time or don’t really need much of their time, this is another way you can get the support you need.

These are run fortnightly (dates and times will be listed in your student portal) and for 2 hours in total. You can book one of the 10 minute blocks within that 2 hours to get some quick help.

“Quick” being the operative word here… If you have a more complex question or problem, you will be directed to book in the time you need with a trainer.

You are limited to one per fortnight and only one 10 minute block per session.

This is also great for some of our students who only study after hours. Since our trainers are available from Monday to Friday during our regular business hours, this is an extra opportunity to get direct help.

Trainer-Led Zoom Class Option

If you find it challenging to do self-paced study, we have added a trainer-led Zoom class option to assist. Choosing the Standard Support package means that additional support and options are not included, so the full-day trainer-led Zoom classes cost $195 per day.

The Ultimate Support package includes all 12 full days of Zoom classes and workshops.

The classes run regularly from Monday to Wednesday (9 am – 4 pm QLD time) each week, and cycle through each cluster (1 per week),  to make it easy to jump in and out of as you choose to.

You will have a page inside your Learner Portal that links to the webpage to see the schedule, pay and register for any of the 12 days available.

12 x "Stay On Track" Videos

These videos provide an extra level of ongoing virtual support.  When you first open your Learner Portal and see the amount of modules and how many items are in each, it can be really overwhelming!

We also know, after 14+ years doing online training, that without someone breaking it down for you and showing you where you should be up to along the way, it’s a lot more likely you’ll get behind and have to do the last minute, often caffeine-fuelled, marathon sprint at the end just to get it done on time.

Stressful much? Well, we found a way to help you avoid that and stay on track for a nice calm and manageable finish.

Think of these as pacing videos; they’re like a pace car on a race track.

These videos break your course down into monthly, bitesize, achievable goals, that help you keep the ideal pace to graduate within the 12 month enrolment period.

We’ve found it makes a HUGE difference to our students being able to complete their learning on time!

Regular Check-Ins From Student Support

We don’t enrol and forget our students. We’re keeping an eye on your progress as you go and we get alerted when there hasn’t been progress made in your Learner Portal.

We care that you’re doing ok and we want to know if you’re stuck, especially if there’s been little to no progress from you for a couple of weeks.

One of our core values is “better together every day”, so we leave no student behind and we’ll check in with you to see what’s going on. This is often how we find out something has happened and the student needs to defer temporarily or is stuck and needs additional support. And we organise it there and then.

Do don’t worry, you won’t be left behind and this is how we make sure you’re doing ok and lovingly nudge you to keep going if you need a little encouragement!

Facebook Support Group

This is a group that is only for students of the TAE40122, regardless of support package.

This is YOUR space to connect and collaborate with other students on the same journey as you. You may find people local to you to study with or who can be part of your group for your assessment task, or your single 1-on-1 learner for that assessment task.

It’s a great way to network and get to know other people who will end up being trainers too. You just never know when jobs come up and someone you know tells you about a role you would LOVE to take. Or you know someone well enough to confidently refer them to a job in your organisation.

Your network is GOLD like that, and this group is a resource that’s there for you if you choose to use it.

Start Faster Videos

These extra videos take you step-by-step through your Learner Portal, showing you exactly where everything is and how to use it so you can get started on your course fast.

When you finish these you’ll know exactly where you need to go to do all the things you need to do.  We’ve made it super easy to navigate!

Access to Online Assessment Workshops

This is for those doing the “Simulated Pathway” only.

These 3 x free Zoom workshops are to help you complete the TAEASS413/TAEDEL405/TAEASS404 practical assessment tasks so you don’t have to organise the who and how, to get them done.

We’ve organised it and done everything for you, now you just have to step into the trainer role and shine for us (if you’ve done everything in the Learner Portal up to this point, you’ll nail it!)

Access to the "Master Trainer Series"

This is a set of 96 videos (20 hours of additional content), done by Laurie Kelly at Brain Friendly Training.

Here is some of what you’ll learn in these videos that go over and above what you’ll learn during your Cert IV TAE:

  • Critical techniques needed in every training situation
  • How to create powerful lesson overviews
  • How to teach using all the senses to maximise learning
  • How to deliver lessons that engage every part of your learners’ brain
  • A range of strategies and activities to keep students awake, focused and energised
  • How to unlock every students’ potential to learn
  • How to use sound, words, visuals, and movement to ensure your students are using whole-body learning
  • Powerful ways to spark your learners’ curiosity
  • How to design and deliver lessons that feel personally real, relevant, and useful
  • Techniques to improve the learning environment and teaching methods
  • How to execute your learning environment & improve your classroom management and presentation skills
  • How to make knowledge “sticky” for students

We purchased them for $6600 to share for free inside your support package.  (You can purchase it individually for $199 if you choose to).

The Small Stuff Videos

This is a series of 52 video tutorials that we produced here at Fortress Learning, demonstrating the small things that can make a BIG difference to your training design and delivery.

Every tip, hack and hint helps make you, your training and delivery even better every time.

More professional development!

Comparison of Support Packages

Here’s what others are saying about our support…

Frequently Asked Questions

Support 2 Men
What is the assessment marking time with this package?

With this package it is within 8 business days, so you will wait a maximum of 8 business days to get your submitted assessments back, and while there are no guarantees, we often get then back to you earlier than that. They talk about it a lot in our reviews and testimonials.

What if I need a LOT more help and support than is included?

We know many of you will choose this package purely because it’s the cheapest, and we get it, but let’s just say you get into your study and find that you really need a lot more support…

Don’t worry because if it looks like you’re going to need substantially more than you thought, you can, at anytime, upgrade to one of the other packages.

You may even find that either our Student Support Team or your Trainer will recommend you do so when they notice how much you are needing support.

To summarise, if you tried this level but got your choice wrong, you can always change to one that suits you better and you only pay the difference in the package price. Nothing more.

What is the cost of additional support time direct with a trainer?

For trainer 1-on-1 support which can be via a phone call, email or Google Meetings, you have the following options:

  • 15 minutes – $25 (you can’t book this, it’s for email questions and responses that take less than 15 minutes or less to reply to)
  • 30 minutes – $50

These are based on how much time your trainer spends focused on supporting you, no matter which way they do so – email, call or Google Meet.

Most students find 30 minutes is perfect to get all the support they need, but the email option means a more cost effective way to get support when less support is needed.

Do I need to pay for extra time if it's just to ask a question regarding the feedback on the assessment they marked?

No you don’t need to pay extra for that.

If you need to speak to the trainer who marked your assessment purely to get more clarity on their feedback, or to ask questions about the feedback that was given on that assessment, there is no charge.

This rarely happens but if it does, we get you to email us what you need to know then we forward it to the trainer and make sure we can get the answers for you fast. If it’s more complicated, the trainer may suggest jumping on a call. This is still no charge.

Just be aware that if it ends up being a support call/email/meeting for anything other than the feedback and questions around that specific assessment task, you may be stopped and asked to book a trainer session.

How do I access the additional trainer support if I need it?

You will have the contact details for the Student Support Team in your Learner Portal, and they are your first point of contact for all enquiries including an SOS for trainer support.

Keep in mind that we have a standard in our Fortress Learning headquarters – all emails responded to within 8 business hours and all phone calls missed are responded to within 4 business hours.

So email or call, and we will get back to you quickly if we miss you!

What if I'm not sure if my question is one for a trainer versus student support?

Contact Student Support and if they can’t answer it, they will let you know that time with a trainer is what you need, and they can help organise it.

If in doubt, if you get confused or stuck at any point – CONTACT STUDENT SUPPORT – that’s what their job is and they’re really good at customer service! They honestly just want to help you.

How fast do you reply to emails and missed calls?

We have an internal policy of replying to emails in less than 8 business hours, and if we miss your call, we will get back to you in less than 4 business hours.

What if I run out of time and need more at the end of the enrolment?

If you haven’t finished your course within the 12 months enrolment period, you can purchase an extension.

  • 1 week $75
  • 1 month $300
Can I get a refund if I change my mind?

Here are our refund policy details so you know ahead of time what you are entitled to and how we handle refunds if in the event, you change your mind for whatever reason.

TAE40122 COURSE PATHWAY OPTIONS

It’s a choose-your-own-adventure moment! Yes, there are multiple options;  we’ve created 2 ways you can do the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment with us, and this is not typical of every RTO offering this training so be sure to ask them about it.

The choice you make will depend on your current work situation and how easy you want this to be for you. The options are:

  1. “I Work In An RTO” – Workplace Pathway
  2. “I Don’t Work In An RTO” – Simulated Pathway

If you’re currently working in an RTO, you can choose either one but if you aren’t currently working in an RTO or recognised training company, you’ll do the Virtual RTO (which is actually the easier choice, you’ll see why shortly).

What Will you choose?

TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment Entry Level - Ultimate Support
"I Work In An RTO" – Workplace Pathway

If you’re already working in an RTO or for a training organisation that has existing training strategies, assessment tools and resources that you can use, you can choose this option.

The great thing about this pathway is that you can choose the topic and focus of the training you design to be one you can actually use in your RTO once you’re done, or even use one they already offer.

It also means that you can use your RTO’s real live resources, assessment tools and existing strategies instead of having to create them from scratch, and when you need a fully qualified Trainer and Assessor* to observe you doing a live training for your assessment task, you can have one of your colleagues do that.

(* Conditions apply for observers in regards to their held qualifications and eligibility to be a workplace observer – you can find more information about this in the list below of what you will need if you choose this pathway).

What You'll Need To Complete The Assessments For This Pathway

“I Work In An RTO” – Workplace Pathway

Here is the list of things you will need to organise, find and make sure your RTO has (that is up to ASQA standards), or will allow you to access, so this pathway is easy and beneficial for you:

  • The National Register of VET (Training.gov.au, or its successor)
  • VET sector job role information
  • Information relevant to an entry-level VET teacher, trainer and assessor about:
    • Organisational requirements
    • Legislative and VET regulatory requirements, and associated guidance information.
    • Organisational procedures plus templates for designing and developing plans for vocational training based on nationally recognised products
  • Nationally recognised training products
  • Clients/Cohorts of learners that you can package a qualification for
  • Training and assessment strategies for required training
  • Session plans and learning resources that address the requirements of a training product that is nationally recognised or aligned with other recognised frameworks
  • A minimum of 4 people to be learners for a face-to-face, in-person, group based training
  • An additional person (can’t be one of the 4 above) to be a learner who requires 1-on-1 mentoring, doing a workplace-based training
  • Students that can be assessed against at least 2 entire units of competency from a nationally recognised training package or accredited course. This must include access to assessment systems plus current and validated assessment tools, including access to a provided RPL kit
  • Organisational procedures for facilitating individual and group-based vocational and work based training

If you don’t know what a lot of these are, that’s ok, you’ll just need to speak to your manager and find out if you’ll have access to everything you need. Particularly the minimum of 5 people to be learners in your practical assessments.  If not, or it just gets all too hard to find/access everything, don’t worry, we have you covered with option 2…

"I Don't Work In An RTO" – Simulated Pathway

Out of the 2 pathways, this is the easiest!  Why?

Because our development team have spent a HUGE amount of time, energy, planning and effort to create a whole virtual RTO (called “X-Factor RTO”) for you to use. This has been over a year in the making because they have gone to great lengths to make it as close to a real-life experience as possible. Hats off to our development team here!

Everything has been created for you and is completely accessible, so you don’t have to create it, find it, or figure it out yourself (which most RTO’s expect you to do).  This is going to save you a lot of time and sanity!

We provide you with the assessment tools, all the learning resources, training and assessment strategies, and all of the VET policies and procedures you need (you can expect to come across these when you work in an actual RTO).

The assignments in our Virtual RTO are based on real life scenarios that will give you a very realistic experience of what it will be like working for an RTO as a trainer and assessor once you graduate.

And we have set up 3 workshops to make sure you’re able to complete the necessary practical assessments for the following units:

  • TAEASS404 – Assess competence in an online environment.
  • TAEDEL405 – Plan, organise and facilitate online learning.
  • TAEASS413 – Participate in assessment validation.

Unfortunately, you can’t become a trainer without actually designing and delivering training to real people.  And you can’t become an assessor without using assessment tools and assessing real students, but as you can see, we help you do all of this.

What You'll Need To Complete The Assessments For This Pathway

“I Don’t Work In An RTO” – Simulated Pathway

Compared to the Actual RTO Based Workplace Pathway, here is the list of things you need to organise for this pathway (noticeably shorter?):

  • A minimum of 4 people to be learners for a face-to-face, in-person, group based training
  • An additional person (can’t be one of the 4 above) to be a learner who requires 1-on-1 mentoring, doing a workplace-based training

The people you choose may be family, friends and/or colleagues. You just need to record the training session and be able to upload the recording to us via your Learner Portal (you have unlimited tech support if you need help doing this part).

Note: If using family/ friends, they must be 16+ years old to be considered one of your learners.

IMPORTANT:  While we’ve done a LOT of work to make this pathway easier, make no mistake, you still have a lot of work to do because this qualification is not easy. We just haven’t made it any harder than it needs to be, and we’re one of the only RTO’s that has gone the extra mile to do this. The kicker is, you won’t even get to truly appreciate it until you’re in your own RTO and can see how our virtual RTO has really prepared you for life as a trainer and assessor!  Oh well, we know you’ll get it, once you know what we know.
