The “Extra Support” Package
For TAE40122 Certificate IV In Training And Assessment – Entry Level
The “Extra Support” Package – WHo is it for?
Just a reminder (in case you didn’t really read it on the other page):
“This package is perfect for people who maybe struggled in school, who know they tend to need some extra help and support when learning new things, but are still pretty ok with navigating online.
This is also perfect for the person who has a lot going on outside of studying. When we have a lot of distractions and demands from work, family, partners (or dating), friends and hobbies, the brain struggles to take in new information and learn new skills.”
This is the first package to include direct and flexible access to a trainer and the shorter 4 day turn around for assessment marking!
This is the difference that will make the difference for you.
Having someone that’s just a phone call/email/Google meet away to help you get unstuck, who can encourage you when you’re doubting yourself, and who can break it down more if you’re feeling overwhelmed, is priceless.
Now let’s clarify what we mean so you know how this is going to benefit you greatly should this package be the best fit for you…
Direct means 1-on-1 time, no having to share their attention or compete with anyone else to get the help you need.
Flexible meaning you book in a time that’s convenient to you and aligned with their availability (we have multiple trainers so there’s always someone available relatively quickly).
You have a total of 12 hours included in your support package, which is definitely enough for the average student, and it means you don’t have to find extra funds to get the support you need later down the track. Especially if you have a lean financial period right when you really need extra help!
You also get unlimited tech and student support on top of this, so if you have any issues with accessing or finding the things you need within your Learner Portal, uploading assessment tasks, or any issues relating to payments or admin, you are fully supported and it doesn’t come out of your included trainer support hours.
Below is a detailed breakdown of each item that’s included in this level of support, and an FAQ for any other questions you might have to help you decide if this is the right support package for you.
Your “Extra” Support Package Inclusions:
A whole 12 hours of direct access to a trainer who knows this whole course inside out, to be used when you need them!
On top of the 12 hours of flexible trainer time included in your support package, you also have access to our “Fast Help Evening Trainer Support” blocks.
If you get stuck and don’t really need much of their time, this is another way you can get the support you need.
These are run fortnightly (dates and times will be listed in your student portal) and for 2 hours in total. You can book one of the 10 minute blocks within that 2 hours to get some quick help.
“Quick” being the operative word here… If you have a more complex question or problem, you will be directed to book in the time you need with a trainer.
You are limited to one per fortnight and only one 10 minute block per session.
This is also great for some of our students who only study after hours. Our trainers are available from Monday to Friday during our regular business hours, so this is an extra opportunity to get direct help.
These videos provide an extra level of ongoing virtual support. When you first open your Learner Portal and see the amount of modules and how many items are in each, it can be really overwhelming!
We also know, after 14+ years doing online training, that without someone breaking it down for you and showing you where you should be up to along the way, it’s a lot more likely you’ll get behind and have to do the last minute, often caffeine-fuelled, marathon sprint at the end just to get it done on time.
Stressful much? Well, we found a way to help you avoid that and stay on track for a nice calm and manageable finish.
Think of these as pacing videos; they’re like a pace car on a race track.
These videos break your course down into monthly, bitesize, achievable goals, that help you keep the ideal pace to graduate within the 12 month enrolment period.
We’ve found it makes a HUGE difference to our students being able to complete their learning on time!
These are additional videos AND printable PDF’s that go into more detail about what each assessment is, what’s required from you and how to go about it.
We’ve done this because we know every brain is different and interprets things in all kinds of ways.
We have an organisation full of diverse brains and this is how we tested it! We had to make sure that no matter what kind of learner you are or how your brain works, that the instructions are clear and that you can confidently know exactly what to do and how to do it.
This is GOLD because over the years we’ve found that this is where students typically get stuck and stalled… so we did something about it.
These guides take you step-by-step through each and every assessment, highlighting exactly what your assessors are looking for and providing real life examples of what you need to do so you aren’t left scratching your head and losing time trying to work it out.
Basically these guides help you get in and get it done properly the first time, saving you time, energy and sanity in having to redo and resubmit an assessment!
We already spent the time, energy and sanity for you so you don’t have to. You’re welcome!
We don’t enrol and forget our students. We’re keeping an eye on your progress as you go and we get alerted when there hasn’t been progress made in your Learner Portal.
We care that you’re doing ok and we want to know if you’re stuck, especially if there’s been little to no progress from you for a couple of weeks.
One of our core values is “better together every day”, so we leave no student behind and we’ll check in with you to see what’s going on. This is often how we find out something has happened and the student needs to defer temporarily or is stuck and needs additional support. And we organise it there and then.
So don’t worry, you won’t be left behind and this is how we make sure you’re doing ok and lovingly nudge you to keep going if you need a little encouragement!
This is a group that is only for students of the TAE40122, regardless of support package.
This is YOUR space to connect and collaborate with other students on the same journey as you. You may find people local to you to study with or who can be part of your group for your assessment task, or your single 1-on-1 learner for that assessment task.
It’s a great way to network and get to know other people who will end up being trainers too. You just never know when jobs come up and someone you know tells you about a role you would LOVE to take. Or you know someone well enough to confidently refer them to a job in your organisation.
Your network is GOLD like that, and this group is a resource that’s there for you if you choose to use it.
These extra videos take you step-by-step through your Learner Portal, showing you exactly where everything is and how to use it so you can get started on your course fast.
When you finish these you’ll know exactly where you need to go to do all the things you need to do. We’ve made it super easy to navigate!
These tutorials are designed to take you from being a “good” trainer, to an exceptional one!
The are designed to give you an even deeper understanding of your course content and additional skills that aren’t included in the standard curriculum.
They are regular, live, and at lunchtime. These webinars run for only 30 – 40 minutes making them nice and easy to absorb and are a big part of your ongoing professional development that as qualified trainers, is expected of us to participate in for as long as we’re trainers.
In this package you have access to one live webinar a week on a Wednesday, and if you want an additional one because there is a topic you really want to view, you can pay $25 extra per LIVE webinar (no recording included).
The recordings for these webinars are not included in this support package level but can be purchased ($200 for the whole months recordings – approximately 20 webinars).
The schedule for these will be in your Learner Portal and you will have a link to book in and pay for the extra ones there as well.
This is for those doing the “Simulated Pathway” only.
These 3 x free Zoom workshops are to help you complete the TAEASS413/TAEDEL405/TAEASS404 practical assessment tasks so you don’t have to organise the who and how, to get them done.
We’ve organised it and done everything for you, now you just have to step into the trainer role and shine for us (if you’ve done everything in the Learner Portal up to this point, you’ll nail it!)
This is a set of 88 videos (20 hours of additional content), done by Laurie Kelly at Brain Friendly Training.
Here is some of what you’ll learn in these videos that goes over and above what you’ll learn during your Cert IV TAE:
We purchased them for $6600, so we could share them here with you inside your support package.
This is a series of 52 video tutorials that we produced here at Fortress Learning, demonstrating the small things that can make a BIG difference to your training design and delivery.
Every tip, hack and hint helps make you, your training and delivery even better every time.
More professional development!
Frequently Asked Questions
Our calendar booking system allows 30 minutes blocks at a time, and you can choose to do a phone call or Google Meet, or even send and email!
30 minutes is usually long enough for trainer support but you can always book an additional one if you need to.
The time used is the time spent by the trainer helping you via any form of communication.
So if it’s a fast question, perhaps a quick email sent is a good use of 15 minutes of your trainer time. But if you are stuck and can’t get your head around a concept or need help working out what to do for your assessment, a 30 minute Google Meet might be the fastest way to get the help you need, and a good use of your trainer time.
No, you can choose – Google Meet, phone or even email. It completely depends on what you need.
Some students prefer a phone call because they can listen and understand exactly what’s needed, or the nature of the question can easily be discussed.
Others are more visual or the content they need to discuss will need some screen sharing in order to explain. Google Meet does allow the trainer flexibility of sharing the screen to walk you through things or show you things that aren’t as easy to explain.
Google Meet can often be the fastest and clearest way to get the information you need when it’s not a quick email question, so keep that in mind when you book.
We only subtract the time you use from your 12 hours, not the amount of time you book. This is also the case if your time goes over (only possible if there isn’t another student booked in right after you).
We recommend you do your best to judge the amount of time you may need and just book that, but we know this isn’t always going to be possible.
You can choose to space it out and use 1 hour per month which is handy, but we suggest just to use it when you need it because you’ll have some sections where you need more time while with others, you’ll need less.
It tends to balance out so no need to plan it out, however, we’ll be watching how quickly you use them and let you know if we think you’re might be better off with upgrading so it doesn’t end up costing you more.
When you upgrade, you only pay the difference in cost.
That’s no problem, you have 2 choices.
- Just purchase more time as you need it
- Upgrade if you find yourself needing a lot more support
When you upgrade you only pay the difference in cost, but it might end up being cheaper in the long run if you’re a person who needs a lot more support to get through.
Most people only need a little bit extra so purchasing more hours as you go is often the better and easiest way to go.
With this package it is within 4 business days, so you will wait a maximum of 4 business days to get your submitted assessments back, and while there are no guarantees, we often get then back to you earlier than that.
They talk about it a lot in our reviews and testimonials… It’s one of the cool things we do for our students.
Having the faster turnaround time also makes a huge difference to your overall speed through to graduation. Have you seen how many assessments there are?
Some companies will have you wait 20 – 25 business days for a result per assessment. We highly recommend you ask about this when you’re researching other RTOs, so you can weigh up your actual course time for yourself.
Don’t worry because if it looks like you’re going to need just a little bit, or substantially more than you thought, you can (at anytime) upgrade to the Ultimate Support package.
You may not need to upgrade to the next package (you’d only pay the difference in cost if you did), you can always just purchase a few more hours as you need, once your 12 hours has been used up.
If you’re not sure how many hours you’ve used, you can always ask the Student Support Team. They can tell you.
For trainer 1-on-1 support which can be via a phone call, email or Google Meetings, you can book for the following:
- 15 minutes – $25 (email only)
- 30 minutes – $50
- 60 minutes – $100 (2 x 30 minute slots)
No you don’t need to pay extra for that.
If you need to speak to the trainer who marked your assessment purely to get more clarity on their feedback, or to ask questions about the feedback that was given on that assessment, there is no charge.
This rarely happens but if it does, we get you to email us what you need to know then we forward it to the trainer and make sure we can get the answers for you fast. If it’s more complicated, the trainer may suggest jumping on a call. This is still no charge.
Just be aware that if it ends up being a support call/email/meeting for anything other than the feedback and questions around that specific assessment task, you may be stopped and asked to book a trainer session.
In your Learner Portal you’ll have a special booking link for accessing the trainers. It will show all the trainers, when they are free, and they will show up in 30 minute booking slots.
You aren’t limited to working with one specific trainer and they’re not all available at the same times so you can pick the next available.
All of our trainers are highly experienced, knowledgeable, patient and compassionate. If you check out our reviews on Trustpilot and Google, our students mention them all the time.
You’ll have the contact details for the Student Support Team in your Learner Portal for anything you need their help with! They’re pretty great at speedy customer service so you’ll be supported in all areas.
Contact Student Support and if they can’t answer it, they will let you know that time with a trainer is what you need, and you will have a link in your Learner Portal to the booking calendar to book trainer time.
If in doubt, if you get confused or stuck at any point – CONTACT STUDENT SUPPORT – that’s what their job is and they’re really good at customer service! They honestly just want to help you.
We have an internal policy of replying to emails in less than 8 business hours, and if we miss your call, we will get back to you within 4 business hours.
Our admin and student support team are pretty good at hitting these standards too!
If you haven’t finished your course within the 12 months enrolment period, you can purchase an extension.

TAE40122 COURSE PATHWAY OPTIONS
It’s a choose-your-own-adventure moment! Yes, there are multiple options; we’ve created 2 ways you can do the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment with us, and this is not typical of every RTO offering this training so be sure to ask them about it.
The choice you make will depend on your current work situation and how easy you want this to be for you. The options are:
- “I Work In An RTO” – Workplace Pathway
- “I Don’t Work In An RTO” – Simulated Pathway
If you’re currently working in an RTO, you can choose either one but if you aren’t currently working in an RTO or recognised training company, you’ll do the Virtual RTO (which is actually the easier choice, you’ll see why shortly).
What Will you choose?
If you’re already working in an RTO or for a training organisation that has existing training strategies, assessment tools and resources that you can use, you can choose this option.
The great thing about this pathway is that you can choose the topic and focus of the training you design to be one you can actually use in your RTO once you’re done, or even use one they already offer.
It also means that you can use your RTO’s real live resources, assessment tools and existing strategies instead of having to create them from scratch, and when you need a fully qualified Trainer and Assessor* to observe you doing a live training for your assessment task, you can have one of your colleagues do that.
(* Conditions apply for observers in regards to their held qualifications and eligibility to be a workplace observer – you can find more information about this in the list below of what you will need if you choose this pathway).
“I Work In An RTO” – Workplace Pathway
Here is the list of things you will need to organise, find and make sure your RTO has (that is up to ASQA standards), or will allow you to access, so this pathway is easy and beneficial for you:
- The National Register of VET (Training.gov.au, or its successor)
- VET sector job role information
- Information relevant to an entry-level VET teacher, trainer and assessor about:
- Organisational requirements
- Legislative and VET regulatory requirements, and associated guidance information.
- Organisational procedures plus templates for designing and developing plans for vocational training based on nationally recognised products
- Nationally recognised training products
- Clients/Cohorts of learners that you can package a qualification for
- Training and assessment strategies for required training
- Session plans and learning resources that address the requirements of a training product that is nationally recognised or aligned with other recognised frameworks
- A minimum of 4 people to be learners for a face-to-face, in-person, group based training
- An additional person (can’t be one of the 4 above) to be a learner who requires 1-on-1 mentoring, doing a workplace-based training
- Students that can be assessed against at least 2 entire units of competency from a nationally recognised training package or accredited course. This must include access to assessment systems plus current and validated assessment tools, including access to a provided RPL kit
- Organisational procedures for facilitating individual and group-based vocational and work based training
If you don’t know what a lot of these are, that’s ok, you’ll just need to speak to your manager and find out if you’ll have access to everything you need. Particularly the minimum of 5 people to be learners in your practical assessments. If not, or it just gets all too hard to find/access everything, don’t worry, we have you covered with option 2…
Out of the 2 pathways, this is the easiest! Why?
Because our development team have spent a HUGE amount of time, energy, planning and effort to create a whole virtual RTO (called “X-Factor RTO”) for you to use. This has been over a year in the making because they have gone to great lengths to make it as close to a real-life experience as possible. Hats off to our development team here!
Everything has been created for you and is completely accessible, so you don’t have to create it, find it, or figure it out yourself (which most RTO’s expect you to do). This is going to save you a lot of time and sanity!
We provide you with the assessment tools, all the learning resources, training and assessment strategies, and all of the VET policies and procedures you need (you can expect to come across these when you work in an actual RTO).
The assignments in our Virtual RTO are based on real life scenarios that will give you a very realistic experience of what it will be like working for an RTO as a trainer and assessor once you graduate.
And we have set up 3 workshops to make sure you’re able to complete the necessary practical assessments for the following units:
- TAEASS404 – Assess competence in an online environment.
- TAEDEL405 – Plan, organise and facilitate online learning.
- TAEASS413 – Participate in assessment validation.
Unfortunately, you can’t become a trainer without actually designing and delivering training to real people. And you can’t become an assessor without using assessment tools and assessing real students, but as you can see, we help you do all of this.
“I Don’t Work In An RTO” – Simulated Pathway
Compared to the Actual RTO Based Workplace Pathway, here is the list of things you need to organise for this pathway (noticeably shorter?):
- A minimum of 4 people to be learners for a face-to-face, in-person, group based training
- An additional person (can’t be one of the 4 above) to be a learner who requires 1-on-1 mentoring, doing a workplace-based training
The people you choose may be family, friends and/or colleagues. You just need to record the training session and be able to upload the recording to us via your Learner Portal (you have unlimited tech support if you need help doing this part).
Note: If using family/ friends, they must be 16+ years old to be considered one of your learners.
IMPORTANT: While we’ve done a LOT of work to make this pathway easier, make no mistake, you still have a lot of work to do because this qualification is not easy. We just haven’t made it any harder than it needs to be, and we’re one of the only RTO’s that has gone the extra mile to do this. The kicker is, you won’t even get to truly appreciate it until you’re in your own RTO and can see how our virtual RTO has really prepared you for life as a trainer and assessor! Oh well, we know you’ll get it, once you know what we know.
What will it cost me?
