TAE40116 CERTIFICATE IV IN TRAINING AND ASSESSMENT (ZOOM – 1 BLOCK)
FACE TO FACE VIA ZOOM – 10 CONSECUTIVE BUSINESS DAYS – 6 MONTHS ENROLMENT PERIOD
Unlike our standard program, our TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment Zoom 1 Block program includes direct facilitation via Zoom by our trainer, Brian Uren, over ten consecutive business days.
Courses are scheduled to commence once or twice a month. Every final Friday of each course is a Study Day dedicated to those who would like more time to review or ask for assistance and support from their Trainer. Study days are open to all program students during their six-month enrolment duration.
We are no longer accepting enrolments into our Zoom program for the superseded TAE40116. We are releasing a new Zoom program for the TAE40122 in the coming months. If you want to know more please get in touch with our Course Advisors.
All practical assessment tasks are completed in class with your fellow students.
You will not complete the full course in the ten Zoom days. There are assessment tasks that will need to be completed after the virtual face-to-face workshops. These include things like designing learning programs, developing assessment tools and demonstrating your knowledge. For this, you will have access to all digital course materials and resources, as well as support from your trainer, for the 6-month duration of your enrolment.
This pathway is suitable for those students who would not have access to the external resources required for our Standard/RPL/CT or Lite pathways.
*Please also note that, unlike our online pathways, which allow for Credit Transfer/RPL or entering and leaving a Qualification with a Statement of Attainment for full units completed, the Zoom 1 Block course is assessed as an integrated model across all 10 units of competency meaning that you will be required to complete all Assessment Tasks to be awarded any Units of Competency in their entirety.
This qualification is best suited to individuals delivering training and assessment within the vocational education and training sector. It suits those wanting to enter the training industry, or those either delivering accredited training or responsible for the assessment of competence of an apprentice or trainee within a workplace.

IT Requirements
As this program is delivered online, it is essential that students are aware of the IT requirements of the program prior to enrolling to ensure that we’re the right fit.
To enrol for this program, you must be able to answer YES to the following questions;
- Do you have access to a computer?
- Does your computer have – a broadband internet connection – Laptop or PC – a video camera, either built into your device or a separate webcam – a microphone, either built into your device or in the webcam?
- Do you have the ability to open web pages, view videos on youtube, download & extract zip folders, open and download pdf documents, and open, edit, save & upload documents created in word?

Are there any entry requirements?
Unlike previous Certificate IV in Training & Assessment qualifications, the latest TAE40116 requires people entering the program to be able to:
demonstrate vocational competency in their proposed teaching and assessing area. Vocational competency is defined as broad industry knowledge and experience, and may include, but is not limited to, holding a relevant unit of competency or qualification.
How do I do that?
For most people, it will simply be a matter of providing a copy of some other qualification, skill set, or statement of attainment. If you do not possess another qualification, then we would require you to provide a CV that shows your broad industry knowledge and experience, combined with a Position Description and Third Party Report from someone who can attest to your experience.
In essence, the entry requirement is to be able to provide evidence of your knowledge and experience in your industry area.
How long does it take?
The entire duration of enrolment is 6 months. This includes two components:
- The face to face component (via Zoom): 10 business days
- The online/distance component: the remainder of the enrolment duration
How does it work?
The initial face-to-face portion (via Zoom) of the course will be delivered over 10 consecutive business days (refer to “How is the course delivered?”). This provides the foundation learning for the program and also includes a considerable amount of the practical assessment components, especially those that require access to other people
Following the face-to-face component, your learning will continue, and you will have further assessment tasks to complete. The pace at which you complete these is up to you, but we do allow up to 6 months so you can fully immerse yourself in the program, and better juggle the program with other components of your life.
What will affect how long my TAE Certificate IV will take?
Experience tells us that the following factors will affect the time it takes to complete this course:
- Experience – if you have experience in training/assessing, then you will likely not need as long as people without experience
- Dedication – if you have a good reason to do the course, and can hold yourself accountable, then you will likely not need as long as people who are less committed
- Other commitments – if you have a busy life with many competing professional and personal demands, then you will likely need longer than those people with fewer demands.
All assessments are based on real-life workplace scenarios, meaning that there is no requirement for assessments to be completed in a particular workplace. Ultimately, you will have six months from the beginning of your course to complete and submit your assessment tasks.
While it differs for different people, we find that successful students usually dedicate 10 to 15 hours per week.
That said, some of our students take less time, while others take more. It is up to you.
Successful Study Habits
We have a video on Successful Study Habits that will support you to progress through the course in a timely manner. Here is what we know to be true, based on our experience with thousands of students:
- Talk to us! If you’re stuck on a problem at home or feel overwhelmed, don’t sit and stew, or worse, procrastinate! Connect with us in whatever way suits you, be it phone, chat, email, Google Meet or Zoom, and we’ll help you reach a solution so you can get on with your studies.
- Schedule it in! Set aside “chunks’ of time to allow you to really sink your teeth (and brain) into the learning process and allow yourself to get “in the zone”. You can set your own pace, structuring your learning and your assessments to suit your lifestyle.
- And lastly, take your course one step at a time… consistency is important but if the unexpected happens, we can help you find solutions.

When is it on?
1 Block Zoom courses are scheduled to commence once or twice a month throughout the year.
The program commences with 10 consecutive business days of Zoom workshops. The upcoming dates for these workshops are shown at the top of this web page.
You will not complete the entire course in the Zoom workshops. These workshops will provide the foundations for the units and assessment tasks, but you will be required to finalise the course requirements outside of these sessions. For this, you will have access to all course materials and resources, as well as support from your trainer, for the duration of your 6 month enrolment.
You may be eligible for government funding.
If you are over 40, you may be eligible to receive 50% of your course fees from the government’s Skills Checkpoint for Older Workers (SCOW) program. Another funding option is the Mid Career Checkpoint which offers funds of up to $3,000 to students who return to the workforce.
More information is available HERE.
Can I get a refund if I change my mind?
In ordinary circumstances, the following refunds will apply in the event of withdrawal, calculated based on the date of the business day on which the official Withdrawal Form is received.
To withdraw, a student must fill out a Fortress Learning Withdrawal Form, which is available from the Learner Portal or the RTO on request. Once signed, submit it to Fortress Learning. Because eligibility for refund is calculated based on the date of the business day on which the completed Withdrawal Form is received, we encourage prompt completion and submission of the Form.
Fortress Learning will contact the student upon receipt of the withdrawal form to advise of any outstanding issues, e.g. return of course materials, completed units, outstanding fees, and the calculation of any refund that may be payable.
Where are refund is payable, it will be paid within 21 days of receiving the completed Withdrawal Form.
Due to the additional expenses and required number of participants associated with running Zoom programs, the following fees apply to withdrawal:
- If you withdraw 10-20 business days before the scheduled course start date, there is a Cancellation Fee equal to 20% of the Course Fee. This fee will be waived provided that the candidate re-books for a new scheduled course date (ie, it is not possible to “hold” the enrolment open until a future course that is yet to be advertised becomes available). This or any other waiver applies on only one occasion and only where their account is up to date and remains up to date.

Is this course a good fit for you?
We want to make sure that you are the right fit for us and we are the right fit for you. Here are a few things for you to consider:
- Fortress Learning is not a “tick and flick” RTO. If you want the fastest and easiest way, we probably won’t be a good fit.
- We made the decision a long time ago to focus on quality and not quantity. As a result, our qualifications have a very good reputation in the industry.
- Employers know that a Fortress Learning qualification is more than just a piece of paper; it has substance.
- Our students finish their training with knowledge, competence and confidence.
Suitability Assessment
During your Enrolment Interview, before you are able to complete the enrolment form, our student support team member will guide you through a verbal conversation regarding suitability assessment.
What will I be asked?
The Suitability assessment consists of questions addressing the program’s technical requirements, such as required IT and digital literacy skills. We will also make sure you have access to the human and physical resources you need for the practical requirement of your course.
This ensures that you are placed in the right course before enrolling formally.
What happens if I am found not suitable?
If, for some reason, during your Enrolment Interview, we discover that based on the suitability responses you give, you cannot continue with the enrolment, we will offer other alternative solutions or refund your fees paid, including the application fee.
